Limelight Sports, the agency of the Active World, has just supported BBC Radio 1’s Gregathlon: Pedal to the Peaks, a challenge that has raised over £1 million for Sport Relief. The challenge involved BBC Radio 1 DJ, Greg James, climbing Snowden, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis – the highest mountains in Wales, England and Scotland – and cycling in between them, over a period of five days. Despite being hampered and at one point stopped by some of the worst weather conditions of the winter, including the Beast from the East, Greg James succeeded, and the full story and details of the final amount raised will be revealed on Sport Relief tonight on BBC One.
Over the last few months, Limelight Sports has been working with Comic Relief to organise and execute this unique sporting challenge. This has included route planning (circa 500 miles), transportation, accommodation, and support team logistics. Limelight also had to ensure that all the broadcast capabilities were facilitated throughout the route to enable Greg James to continue doing his Radio show every day. Of course with the challenge taking place in February, the Limelight team had the added consideration of freezing and snowy weather conditions.
Commenting on Limelight’s involvement, Account Director, Gemma Marks said, “This was one of the most challenging but rewarding programmes that we have ever worked on. The interest and media coverage generated, particularly on radio and social was astounding and enabled so many people to get involved and follow Greg. This in turn inspired them to support the cause and to raise so much money. It further highlighted the vital importance of the Active World and using inspiring physical challenges as a vehicle to raise awareness and fundraise to help tackle some of the physical and mental problems that face society”.
Sport Relief is the time, every two years, when the British public can get active, have fun and raise cash to help people living incredibly tough lives both in the UK and around the world.
Sport Relief can be seen tonight on BBC One from 7pm
