The World Olympians Association has responded to an appeal for help from Ukrainian Olympians by launching the #OlympiansforUkraine appeal.
Money raised will be used both to help Ukrainian Olympians in need and to help rebuild sport in their country.
WOA has set a symbolic target of 100,000 Swiss francs – one franc for each living Olympian.
World Olympians Association President Joël Bouzou OLY said: “We Olympians are a strong global community, bound together by the Olympic Values. When we see someone in trouble we help. Our friends in the Ukraine have asked for our support in their time of need. They need humanitarian aid, and they want to rebuild their sporting infrastructure. That’s why we launched #OlympiansforUkraine.”
Ukraine Olympians Association President Nina Umanets OLY said in a letter to WOA President Joël Bouzou OLY: “The Ukrainian Olympians Association and I personally sincerely thank you for your solidarity and support to the Olympic community of Ukraine and all Ukrainian people in these hard and tragic times…Your support as well as the support of the rest of the world is very important and extremely needed for us.”
Those who wish to show their support can do so here.
