At Telefónica we have managed not only to promote a cycling team, but also to bring the sport closer to everyone, to open it up to all genders, to show from the inside how a race is experienced and to cross borders, establishing lasting ties with the sport through the creation of communities that promote cycling and everything related to it.
In 2010, the only Spanish team left in the peloton was about to disappear due to lack of support, Telefónica decided to come to the rescue of such an important sport for Spaniards and Movistar Team was born in 2011, turning a sponsorship into a long-term strategic alliance
The Movistar Team has become a mirror for society of our values and the transformation of the company, as it not only reflects the importance for Telefónica of sport as a driving force for the transformation of society and people, but also of the awareness that we must have towards those who do it and it shows the importance of key issues such as gender equality, with the creation of a women’s cycling team, the actions carried out in the field of sustainability have shown an active commitment to the environment. Our commitment to entertainment and transparency has materialised in the production of audio-visual content and by including the technological developments of Telefónica Tech engineers as part of the team.
