This summer, NTT DATA, a global IT services provider, launched digital twin technology at The 150th Open, bringing ShotView to golf. The world-first for golf revolutionised the fan experience and brought fans closer than ever to the data behind the drama.
The digital twin-supported ShotView technology enabled fans on the course and at home to gain unprecedented insight into the millions of data points gathered around the course in a live, interactive setting. For the first time ever, fans were able to access a route to hole visualisation with dynamic path capturing of every shot, player, hole, and round in real-time.
This provided increased access to real-time statistics, analysis and insights of every one of the 34,225 shots of the championship, which also gave professional content teams, blog writers, media and journalists access to automatically created digital assets to help in their story telling.
NTT DATA has a longstanding partnership with The R&A, the organisers of The Open, which has spanned over a decade. During this time, NTT DATA has consistently facilitated innovative change at The Open, golf’s original championship, and in July of this year NTT DATA announced a multiyear extension of its sponsorship of The Open. And excitingly, we have announced our renewal for a further five years, as well as extending our sponsorship to the AIG Women’s Open; underlying our commitment to diversity and inclusion in sports and in society.
