Parasport Powered by Toyota is the home for grassroots accessible sport and activity in the UK. Developed by ParalympicsGB and Toyota in response to rising levels of inactivity within the disabled community, Parasport makes it easier for disabled people to get active by addressing the barriers which prevents them doing so.
Highlighted by our research, transport and travel are amongst the most significant barriers. To address this, we developed our first home workout series in January 2020. Little did we know the demand would skyrocket. In the first week of national lockdown we published our first Parasport Home Workout. The video was shared across our sector, including by DCMS, UK Sport and Sport England and racked-up 18k organic views on YouTube and 11k on Twitter.
Whilst the UK did burpees with Joe Wicks, Parasport produced an accessible alternative. We re-planned and invested in a second series of Home Workouts and an Inclusive Home Workout Zone for our website. On our site, we champion our own materials and signpost to other relevant organisations, like the NHS and British Rowing.
This week we’re working with Paralympian and Strictly star Will Bayley who is joining Parasport club, Freewheelin, for a surprise and delight session. This content will then be shared on our social channels to encourage others to get active.
In addition to home workouts, we also modified our existing content series, Parasport Club of the Month, so we could continue to highlight standout clubs, particularly those supporting the community throughout the lockdown.
