In 2018, Scottish Ballet toured a full-length production of Matthew Bourne’s Highland Fling to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Scottish Ballet performed in sports halls, creating a theatre within each, designing a rigging system so that audiences would experience a full scale version of the performance as if they were seeing it in a lyric theatre on the mainland. The largest costs were in transporting the company to Shetland, Orkney, Oban and Stornoway. An in kind travel partner was found in Scotland’s airline Loganair, ensuring the tour was viable and local audiences felt valued.
