Mediahuis has announced Energia as the exclusive Rugby sponsor of The Indo Sport with Joe Molloy, the Irish Independent’s new sports podcast. Offering a daily rundown of the biggest sports stories from Monday to Friday, The Indo Sport has been dominating the podcast charts since its launch in September.
Molloy, a seven-time winner of Sports Broadcaster of the Year, had been the host of Off the Ball since 2013. This summer, he made waves in the sports media world with a high-profile move to The Irish Independent, arguably one of the biggest sporting transfers of the year.
The sponsorship agreement with Energia will run for the entirety of 2025 and was brokered by Core.
The announcement underlines Energia’s commitment and support for Irish rugby. As sponsors of the Energia AIL, and Official Energy Partners of the IRFU, Leinster Rugby and Connacht Rugby, Energia are proud to support rugby across Ireland. The Energia Rugby for All initiative also promotes participation in rugby across the country among those with physical or learning differences.
At the announcement of the new sponsorship Geoff Codd, Residential Business & Marketing Director, Energia commented: “Since the Indo Sport began last month it’s been riveting listening, and we look forward to working with Joe and the wider team around their rugby coverage next year. 2025 will be a massive year in rugby, with the Women’s World Cup and Ireland’s Men looking to retain the Six Nations title. With plenty of Irish involvement in the Lions tour too, it’s set to be an exciting schedule.”
Dara Keenan, Sponsorship Manager, Core said: “We were looking for an opportunity to showcase Energia’s commitment to Irish rugby at all levels, and the Independent’s wide-ranging coverage provided the ideal platform. When Joe Molloy came on board with The Indo Sport, the opportunity was too good to pass up.”
Hughie Devine, Head of Sponsorship, Mediahuis, said: “The Indo Sport podcast is off to an exceptional start, with its audience expanding rapidly each week across all major audio and video platforms. We’re thrilled to welcome Energia as our official rugby partner, reflecting their deep commitment to the sport at all levels. We’re excited to drive robust results for them throughout 2025, leveraging all our multimedia platforms for maximum effect.”
