At NTT DATA, we are passionate about sports technology and giving spectators and sports fans the best digital experiences. In 2021, NTT DATA challenged itself to help The R&A host one of the first live sporting events this year in a new and innovative way.
With the help of NTT DATA’s technology, the digital offering of The Open 2021 was expanded to include a personalised data driven experience on TheOpen.com and the official Open app.
In response to uncertain times, the NTT DATA decided to create a virtual version of the iconic NTT DATA Wall for The Open 2021. At the same time, we wanted to take full advantage of digital technologies by moving to a fully personalised and real-time data experience, and by integrating the platform to the official Open channels we were able to gain maximum reach.
In close collaboration with The R&A, NTT DATA’s digital activation found a new home on TheOpen.com focused on a live reporting stream of key stories and unique data coming from the Championship. It also provided the opportunity for users to select their favourite players through TheOpen.com leader board to personalise their feed, as well as providing a real-time animated 3D data experience, providing live player, hole, and tournament data summaries.
