In September 2021, Sky Ireland teamed up with the Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team as they embarked on their journey to qualify for their first ever World Cup. This was the team’s first ever, standalone Primary Partner and Sky Ireland’s first ever significant sponsorship in the Irish market.
It was a journey that just over one year later would end in triumph, not just for the nation, but for this unique partnership.
This is the story of that journey.
It’s a journey that began with a belief by Sky Ireland that they needed to align with something close to the heart of the Irish nation to grow brand affinity. And in Ireland, it doesn’t get much bigger than qualifying for a World Cup. But the barriers that the Team have faced and still face to this day, gave Sky an opportunity to use their voice to effect lasting positive change for the sport in this country.
Affinity is defined as a natural liking for and understanding of something. Genuinely helping this team get to their first-ever World Cup, would provide that for Sky in Ireland.
