Inactivity within the disabled community has become a significant societal issue in the UK, with only 47% of those with an impairment being active.*
In response, ParalympicsGB and Toyota created a digital solution, addressing the barriers to exercising, so that the benefits, both physical and mental, can be accessed by everyone.
As it transitions from an automotive to a mobility company, Parasport is the perfect articulation of Toyota’s commitment to ‘make movement better for everyone’.
‘Parasport Powered by Toyota’ is a vibrant online community for participants, parents, and coaches to share experiences and find local information. The ever-growing Parasport Activity Finder now has 3,300+ listed opportunities compared to 2,388 in January 2020, searchable by location, age, activity type and impairment. In response to Covid-19 and the ever-changing Government guidelines we adapted our offering by developing a new Inclusive Home Workout Zone which directs users to engaging virtual classes, resources, and champions other relevant organisations.
Increasing awareness of accessible opportunities and influencing the wider sporting sector is a key objective for Parasport. As an Open Active Forum member, we are working with activity providers to ensure they capture accessibility data, with just 10% currently doing so.
Another way we have made demonstrable difference to society is through the Toyota Parasport Fund. Working in collaboration with UK Home Nations, the fund distributes £250k of annual funding for equipment and training to invest in and improve the quantity and quality of accessible activity in the UK.
