The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the sponsorship industry and related marketing disciplines, as well as excellent written and communications skills, strong interpersonal skills and an ability to identify trends in technology, changing customer behaviour and the subsequent shifts in the needs of the wider business community.

ESA: Our Strategic Vision
“ESA is an organisation created to inspire, unite and grow the sponsorship industry for the benefit of its members.
ESA does this through education, guidance, representation, the recognition of excellence and the sharing of best practice and performance.”
The Role
The role of the Marketing Communications & Events Manager is integral to everything ESA does. We have three strands of communication:
- To our members
- To the wider sponsorship and marketing industries
- To the media
You will take charge of these strands, implementing the marketing strategy with direction from ESA’s Marketing Workstream group. However, the role is not simply about media and member communications activities.
It is vital that, as a membership body, we continue to give value to our members. And so you, working with the relevant board committees, will be responsible for creating, promoting and delivering member events in accordance with the overall strategy. These member benefit events require logistical planning and execution and are a major part of the ESA offering.
ESA partners with outside organisations in order to deliver member value-added experiences, and you will be involved in securing these partnerships so that ESA and the membership can benefit from these relationships. Good negotiation skills (or a willingness to learn!) are important.
You will work closely with the ESA Board and the various workstreams and will sit on committees for key events such as the ESA Awards, the flagship awards programme for Europe’s sponsorship industry.
The role will have specific tasks, including:
- Marketing and communications planning, strategy, implementation and review
- Planning, promotion and delivery of ESA events that run in conjunction with key partners and members
- Close liaison with the ESA Board and various workstreams that they are involved with (Events / Commercial / Marketing / Education)
- Managing appropriate digital and social media channels to promote ESA and deliver member communications and discussions and grow ESA’s footprint
- Working closely with the key stakeholders & course directors of each of the ESA “tentpole” qualification products to deliver member content that aligns with the overall strategy. This includes graduate testimonial interviews, reports and other associated output from the:
- ESA Diploma
- ESA Sponsorship Sales Certificate
- ESA Leaders Programme
- ESA Practical tools for navigating C-19
- ESA Arts Sponsorship Certificate
- Supporting various workstreams to identify key sponsorship and engagement marketing themes for event and content planning
- Day-to-day oversight of ESA’s events calendar, including webinars, masterclasses and member networking opportunities
- Working with ESA’s Media Group to identify and deliver white papers and other member educational content. You will then be required to work closely with the group, writing the paper
- Outreach to ESA members, helping to tell industry success stories and working with ESA’s Membership Manager to engage prospective ESA members
- Creation of infographics, social media-specific imagery and other visual aids to help boost engagement with ESA material.
The right candidate will have:
- A developed, mature and authoritative writing style that can be applied when writing white papers, press releases and member website content (conduct interviews / profiles / news updates etc.)
- A knowledge of the workings of key media (broadcast / print / online) in order to be able to work effectively with journalists, supporting both proactive and reactive opportunities when they arise (i.e. facilitating spokespeople opportunities on broadcast media / the creation of media briefing packs for key ESA spokespeople etc.) and getting ESA into the public eye
- Contacts in relevant media fields, such as marketing, PR and sports business publications
- Experience with CRM software or integrated mail marketing platforms, ideally MailChimp
- Offering “hands on” support to the rest of the ESA team across various internal functions including: MailChimp bulk mail campaign creation and delivery; social media outreach; updating ESA’s main web portal and content in WordPress.
Desired Skills & Experience
- 2-3+ years of marketing, communications and PR with a good understanding of sponsorship
- Proven journalistic or copywriting skills with excellent attention to detail
- Experience of updating websites and utilising social media channels, particularly LinkedIn and Twitter, effectively
- Organised and able to work with multiple teams
- Experience with publishing and graphic design programmes i.e. Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop
- Ability to identify trends (within and outside the sponsorship industry), and how they might impact on our members/possible future members
- Experience with a CMS, ideally WordPress
