On the 9th November 2018, the European Sponsorship Association (ESA), the not for profit organisation that works to improve standards across the sponsorship industry, announced a partnership with Cannes Lions, the International Festival of Creativity that celebrates the most creative branded communications from around the world.
As part of this partnership, Cannes Lions will open its doors and digital platform, The Work, to inspire and educate ESA members. A series of events will also allow ESA members to learn from other marketing sectors from around the world.
In return, ESA will support Cannes Lions’ newly announced Entertainment Lions for Sport awards, encouraging ESA members to enter and to attend the Festival.
Andy Westlake, Chairman of ESA, commented
Cannes Lions is the Gold Standard in global marketing and we’re delighted to work with them to help our industry continue to grow. Sponsorship is often seen as restrictive due to tight contractual parameters, but we hope to use this partnership as a springboard for our members to unlock new creative ways of delivering brilliant sponsorship campaigns, and to grow the profile of sponsorship in boardrooms across the world.”
Louise Benson, VP Festivals, Cannes Lions, added
Creativity is a fundamental driver for marketing effectiveness, and sport and sponsorship are no exceptions. We’ve seen huge interest from the sports industry at Cannes Lions and our creation of a standalone Lion – the Entertainment Lion for Sport – is testament to that. ESA has helped us shape this award. We now look forward to working together to help raise creative standards across the industry.”
