Ahead of the upcoming 2022 season, Greenpower Education Trust has announced the renewal of its partnership with SQN, which has been the charity’s official Communications Partner since late 2019.
Throughout a difficult period for the entire education sector due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SQN has tirelessly supported Greenpower and its mission to engage more young people in STEM across the UK and beyond. Over the past two years, the content and communications agency has been key in increasing the public awareness of the work the charity does through its unique electric racing challenge.
The strong relationship between Greenpower and SQN is built on shared goals, with both parties believing that this country’s young people should have access to practical, hands-on learning opportunities within STEM. They also both see the value in exposing students to how exciting a career in engineering can be, in order to inspire them to consider it is as a potential career path.
Greenpower has projected a message of equality over the past twelve months, as the charity works to increase gender and cultural diversity in STEM and engineering. It’s dedication to this cause saw Grenpower feature in the Hamilton Commission Report, a research report spearheaded by seven-time Formula 1 world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton, that explores the barriers to the recruitment and progression of Black people within UK motorsport.
With a successful 2021 season in the rear-view mirror, Greenpower and SQN’s focus now shifts to the 2022 calendar, which should see the return of a handful of events that were unable to be run this year. As Greenpower’s official Communications Partner, SQN will utilise its extensive experience and talented team to help further the charity’s reach and prominence in both the media and the STEM industry.
Paul van Veggel, CEO of Greenpower Education Trust, said on the partnership extension: “We are delighted to once again have SQN as our official Communications Partner as we head into 2022.
“SQN has become an extension of the Greenpower team over the past two years and has been vital in amplifying our voice through a challenging period. The future is looking incredibly bright for Greenpower, and we hope to continue working with SQN for many years to come.”
Chris Hughes, Managing Director of SQN, added: “Since our partnership began in 2019, we have seen first-hand the brilliant opportunities that Greenpower provides.
“The ethos of ‘you can’t be who you can’t see’ manifests itself throughout the entire organisation, opening a world of possibilities for young people that might have otherwise gone unexplored. At its heart, Greenpower is made up of a talented team who are all passionate about driving positive change, and that is something that we share at SQN.
“To have the opportunity to extend our partnership into 2022 – at a time when young people need organisations like Greenpower more than ever – makes us incredibly proud.”

About Greenpower Education Trust
Greenpower Education Trust has been running its design, build and race challenge for primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities in the UK for 20 years. It currently works with over 600 schools and 11,000 young people in a programme designed to get young people interested in engineering, particularly sustainable engineering, at an early age.
Through the Greenpower programme, young people from the age of nine get hands-on technical experience but also learn communication, teambuilding and co-operation skills, while the process also gives underprivileged or struggling youngsters a renewed focus and goals for which to aim.
Greenpower partners Siemens, Siemens Digital Industries Software, Ford, The Institution of Engineering and Technology and SQN throw their weight behind the work that Greenpower achieves in the UK. The Patrons are The Duke of Richmond, David Richards CBE, and Allan Cook CBE.
