British No.1 and Jaguar UK ambassador, Johanna Konta, warns her opponents she is “ready for battle” as she prepares her “aggressive game” for an assault on her favoured grass court surface at the Wimbledon Championships next week.
Speaking exclusively as part of Jaguar’s Show Your Edge content series, Konta stated, “I am ready for a gladiatorial fight this year. I have learnt a lot since reaching the semi-final last year and I am confident I can go one better. I will be exciting and I will be aggressive. I want to make a statement.”
Konta is bidding to be the first British woman to lift the title in over 40 years and, having breezed through her match at Eastbourne yesterday with a dominant performance, was emphatic about her preparation. “I have been meticulous in my preparation both physically and psychologically and I am confident my experience at this tournament will give me the edge.”
A player who showed the value of her mental fortitude at last year’s Wimbledon, Konta is confident she is in the best possible place to perform, “I have trained myself to have as little going through my mind as possible. I am at a level now where I feel I have channelled my positivity into bricks that have built me a wall and I trust those bricks and I trust myself.”
Konta, also spoke of the moment she focuses her concentration on matchday. “For me, the journey to the tournament is my most important time. When I get in the car and I put on my music, no one talks to me, and that’s where I visualize myself and the movements I want from my body.”
Jaguar is entering its fourth season as the Official Car of The Championships, Wimbledon which runs from Monday 2 July to Sunday 15 July. Jaguar will supply 170 vehicles from its award-winning range, including the XE, XF, XJ and F-PACE as well as the new, all electric I-PACE driving over 30,000 journeys during the tournament.
The short film is the conclusion of a three-part series of ‘Show Your Edge’ films that offer insight into the journeys of British tennis’ three biggest stars; Konta, Kyle Edmund and Andy Murray, as we approach the start of the Wimbledon Championships next week.
