Art Fair celebrates 10th anniversary with move to Chelsea Sorting Office for 2019 – Moniker takes place from 2-6 October
This October, Moniker Art Fair will be celebrating its 10th anniversary with a move to Chelsea Sorting Office after welcoming thousands of contemporary art collectors at the East London event for the past nine years. Founded in London in 2010, Moniker is a hyper-curated five-day contemporary art fair exhibiting an international roster of the finest artists and galleries. It has earned a reputation as one of the most exciting contemporary art fairs in the world with its roots embedded in urban culture.
Moving from Shoreditch to Chelsea marks a year of radical change, as Moniker continues to push the narrative of urban art, and its role in the London art scene. The fair’s reinvention in South West London will pioneer its future-forward outlook.
In a partnership brokered by ESA member Reg&Co, Moniker has partnered with Battersea Power Station for its 10th anniversary event. The Grade II* listed London landmark is being transformed into one of the capital’s most exciting, new destinations and is set to attract over 40 million visitors per year once it opens in 2021. Circus West Village, the first chapter of the regeneration of Battersea Power Station, is already a thriving riverside destination with its diverse mix of independent and new concept restaurants, bars, shops and events programme welcoming over two million visitors in the last 12 months.
Battersea Power Station will extend the art fair’s reach with the installation of an exclusive mural designed by British artist, Mr Penfold. Mr Penfold’s distinctive style has been formed by several influences ranging from skateboard graphics to classical and formal abstraction. The mural will be on show at Battersea Power Station to coincide with the beginning of the fair.
Themed talks will take place daily throughout the five-day fair and on Friday 4th October.
Honor Fishburn, Director of Placemaking at Battersea Power Station, said:
“Battersea Power Station is delighted to partner with Moniker Art Fair for its 10th anniversary and the first-ever event to take place in South West London. Since opening Circus West Village in 2017, it has been our ambition to turn this riverside destination into a new cultural district for London. Partnering with Moniker and hosting an exclusive piece of artwork by Mr Penfold throughout the fair is a fantastic opportunity to strengthen the art and culture offering already available at Battersea Power Station.”
Battersea Power Station is also one of the locations for Moniker’s Free Art Friday scavenger hunts with 10 free art pieces being hidden around Circus West Village on Friday 4th October. The hunt begins early on Friday morning and it’s finders keepers so art enthusiasts need to be quick to be in with a chance of finding a unique piece to add to their collection. Over the past decade, the Moniker art fair has embraced risks and it seeks to prove how the immersive and experiential fair format can powerfully stimulate audiences and win over the next generation of contemporary collectors. As much a festival as an art fair, Moniker has evolved since its East London foundation and the scene’s inevitable global transience means it can embrace its transient roots as it relocates.
The five-day fair will also include daily talks and film programme hosted by The Art Conference, live DJs, art workshops, immersive experiences and a selection of food and drink pop-ups.
Tina Ziegler, Founder at Moniker Art Fair said:
“It’s always exciting to build our network of art lovers across London and we are really excited to have Battersea Power Station on board. The history and iconic nature of the building make it a natural destination for contemporary art and I am really excited to see how this partnership might develop over the next few years.”
