With less than one month to go until the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Team GB have launched a brand new podcast to celebrate their Tokyo-bound Olympians in the build-up to the world’s biggest sporting event. Relay is supported by GoDaddy, the official domain name, website builder and web hosting partner of Team GB.
Hosted by Olympic super-fan Vernon Kay, double Olympic gold medallist Nicola Adams and comedian Rhys James, Relay features fun and in-depth chats with an array of Team GB athletes, engaging fans across the country with the aim of entertaining and inspiring the nation as momentum grows in the lead-up to Tokyo 2020.
The first episode is available now with taekwondo star Bianca Walkden joining Vernon, Nicola and Rhys to talk lucky charms, sparring with her boyfriend, running a pizza company and how a girl from Liverpool became one of the biggest names in her sport. Further episodes in the series will be released weekly on Fridays.
In the series, Relay also explores the wider interests of athletes away from their sport. Episode two champions the remarkable story of Tokyo-bound boxer Chev Clarke whose selection to the Games comes via football, driving HGVs as well as becoming an entrepreneur, through building his own online clothing brand, Level Up Nation.
The podcast will run weekly for six episodes in the run-up to the Games with two further episodes being released during and just after Tokyo 2020.
Produced by TBI Media, Relay is available on all major podcast platforms and you can listen and subscribe here: https://podfollow.com/relay-the-team-gb-podcast.
Scott Field, Director of Communications and Marketing at Team GB said: “Launching ‘Relay’ on the eve of Tokyo 2020 is a great way to celebrate these brilliant athletes and Team GB as a whole. The show is about fun and entertainment before the serious business of challenging for medals in Tokyo begins. Being able to work with the likes of Vernon and Rhys, two genuine Olympic sport fans, and a Team GB legend in Nicola really helps bring to life how inspirational and loved our athletes are and hopefully the podcast can play its role in creating that huge wave of support from the nation when the Games begin next month.”
Ben Law, Head of GoDaddy UK and Ireland said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Team GB and excited for the launch of ‘Relay’ ahead of Tokyo 2020. Ultimately, every athlete is a small business. At GoDaddy, we help everyday entrepreneurs do something extraordinary and the launch of this new and engaging podcast series will bring to life successful sporting and entrepreneurial stories to help inspire a new generation of business owners.”
