The UK’s leading mental health charity for children and young people, YoungMinds have agreed a partnership with Celebrity Esports and its inaugural celebrity esports league.
The first of its kind celebrity series will take place across 7 digital episodes, aired monthly from April – November 2021 and will feature a star-studded collection of celebrity teams, whose gaming skills will be put to the ultimate test for the chance to become Celebrity Esports Superstar League Champions.
Celebrity teams will compete against each other across a collection of the world’s most famous video game titles and unique to other gaming tournaments, Celebrity Esports will be giving lucky members of the public the experience of a lifetime to play in a team alongside their favourite celebrities as Fan Captains.
YoungMinds’ More Than A Game campaign will feature content from celebrity players to shine a light on the positive role that gaming plays in young people’s mental wellbeing and in tandem with Celebrity Esports, it will invite young people to join together and use the gaming community as a platform to connect, share experiences and take control of how they game and build confidence.
Tom Madders, Director of Campaigns at YoungMinds said:
“Just like social media, there can be positives and negatives to gaming. It can give us a space to unwind, relax and take time out from the pressures of daily life – just like reading can, or going for a walk. The young people we work with tell us that it can be a sociable way to have fun and stay connected with their friends and family and it can give them a sense of achievement as they learn new skills.
“This campaign is really important in promoting the positive impact gaming can have if used in the right way. We’re delighted to be teaming up Celebrity Esports, they will be able to reach many young gamers and help them have a positive time online.”
Leo Skagerlind, Founder and CEO of Celebrity Esports added:
“We are thrilled to welcome YoungMinds to the Celebrity Esports family. Through the partnership we want to raise awareness of the fantastic work YoungMinds do and highlight to the masses that gaming can and should be used as a platform for people to connect, share experiences and have fun!”
As part of the launch, a YoungMinds supporter will be selected as a Fan Captain of a celebrity team for the opening episode in April. Keep an eye out for the latest news and celebrity reveals on Celebrity Esports’ website and social channels.
