The European sponsorship industry is worth around €34.45bn/ £29.95bn and is enjoying continued growth in both financial terms and in stature as a marketing discipline.
ESA is the essential and inclusive community for all professionals working in sponsorship. We inspire more successful sponsorships, drive confidence in decision making and grow a diverse community through world-leading education, events and resources, industry connections and recognition of excellence.
A not-for-profit membership association, ESA’s reach encompasses all types of sponsorship activity from sport, broadcast, education, charity, arts and culture to environment and the community. We work closely with our membership comprising large corporate sponsors, rights holders and sports governing bodies, agencies and consultants, professional advisors and suppliers.
ADMINISTRATOR
Overview
ESA is seeking an enthusiastic candidate with office experience who is well organised with excellent attention to detail and strong verbal and written skills.
A good understanding of using Outlook (email), Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is important, and experience using Mailchimp and WordPress would be favourable but is not essential.
The role requires no previous experience in sponsorship but an interest in marketing/ sponsorship and events would be ideal and a willingness to learn about the sponsorship industry is essential.
The applicant should be self-motivated and able to work on their own. The position offers scope to grow and take on more responsibility and so ESA is looking for a person who is keen to develop within the role.
The position will suit a ‘people’s person’ who has a confident telephone manner, is comfortable meeting senior people and has a clear understanding of the importance of customer service.
The role requires supporting ESA’s team with administration.
The annual calendar of events and projects makes much of the work cyclical:
- membership renewal invoices are sent first working day of December
- work on the ESA Awards is September through mid-March
- ESA Sponsorship Diploma requires work throughout the year which peaks at certain times e.g. start of new course, launch of next course, alumni/graduation events etc.
- three ESA Sponsorship Sales Certificate intakes per year: January, May, September
- ESA Introduction to Sponsorship course is on demand
- ESA Events and Breakfasts are held throughout the year.
There are two aspects to the role, which covers the following:
Reactive aspect:
- new member liaison – onboarding – emails, spreadsheets and Mailchimp
- course enrolments – emails & spreadsheets
- filing Diploma assignments to be marked (currently up to 13 per student per year) – emails & spreadsheets
- recording ESA ItS module quiz results – emails & spreadsheets
- setting up ESA Associates – Mailchimp mailing list
- proofreading member comms – Mailchimp bulletins and ESA press releases
- general enquiries and info requests – via email and telephone – forward to appropriate team member and gradually take on answering more yourself.
Also:
- attending meetings occasionally
- supporting with ESA Events – greeting, handing out name stickers, various admin
- adding contacts (who gave GDPR permission) to Mailchimp after events
- ESA Awards admin (emails, spreadsheets, proofing)
- co-ordinating and posting ESA Awards (replica) trophies after the ceremony.

The position will be varied and provide an excellent introduction to all aspects of the sponsorship industry, lending itself to an understanding of Sponsorship, Marketing, Public Relations and Event Management.
ESA offers flexible home-based working. In turn, there may be occasional out-of-office-hours’ work to cover our various ESA events, and you may be asked to attend these.
