Iberdrola. Empowering women through sports

At Iberdrola we see our sponsorship as a firm commitment made by us to girls and women all over Spain.

We believe in being able to change things, and we are convinced that, through sport, we can empower women, acknowledge their role in society and raise awareness among people of just how important it is for all of us to build a society with equal opportunities.

How?

1. By promoting professional sport through agreements with national federations in order to improve conditions in training centres, transport, medical services, strengthening national leagues and sides…

2. Raising awareness and giving visibility to sportswomen and their achievements with an Ambassadors plan including 24 women athletes from different sports.

3. Creating role models that break down barriers so that young girls know that they can be what they want to be and reach the pinnacle of success.

A plan that yields results.

▪ The growth of grassroots sport. The number of federated sportswomen has grown by 40% in the federations that receive our support, benefiting over 500 women athletes.

▪ We have been at the side of Spanish women’s sports during historic milestones: the first broadcast of competitions on television and digital platforms, the first record-breaking television audiences, the first women’s football matches played in large First Division stadiums, record attendance at games and sporting records achieved by many female athletes supported by us.

Which has already achieved recognition.

▪ 47% of Spaniards acknowledge Iberdrola as the biggest promoter of women’s sport in Spain.
