Hahnemühle & Photo London
Debuting at the 2023 edition of Photo London, The Hahnemühle Student Award was an exciting new opportunity for students enrolled in photography degrees at UK universities. The aim of the award was to bring developing photographers’ portfolios to international attention and support early- career talent within the industry. This new initiative built on Photo London’s ongoing commitment to supporting and investing in emerging photographic artists.
How it worked
Faculty members at UK universities offering photography courses were invited to nominate students.
The nominated students were invited to propose a specific Hahnemühle paper that would best suit printing of their work.
The award’s judging panel shortlisted 4 nominated artists whose work was showcased at Photo London 2023. The panel selected one overall winner announced at a special ceremony at the fair.
The Prize
In addition to reaching an international audience by presenting their work at Photo London, the shortlisted artists were invited to one of Hahnemühle’s UK-certified print studios to oversee the production of their exhibition prints.
The winner received a residency including time at the Hahnemühle mill in Germany to oversee the production of a new body of photographic work using Hahnemühle’s internationally respected printing papers.
The Results
Hahnemühle received 180 entrants which were shortlisted down to 5 whose work was exhibited at the fair.
The Award achieved 7 standalone pieces of national coverage including a feature in the Guardian giving the brand an estimated 264k views and 229 engaged with the article on social media.
