Just Eat as the official food delivery partner of the UEFA Champions League, created The Nutmeg: Just Eat x John O’Shea campaign aimed to drive relevance amongst Just Eat’s key target audience, increase awareness of the brand’s association with football and deliver impactful results for the brand.
Through a collaboration with Irish footballing hero and UEFA Champions League winner John O’Shea, Just Eat produced ‘The Nutmeg’ a mockumentary style film celebrating the 20-year anniversary of John O’Shea’s famous nutmeg on Luis Figo in an all-time UEFA Champions League classic between Real Madrid & Manchester United. The content featured recognisable Irish sporting and media faces, was tongue-in-cheek and humorous in its nature. Various deliverables were produced for the Just Eat channels, including teasers, a hero edit and cutdowns. Social media posting, influencer collaborations, a media partnership and a strategic PR campaign helped leverage the content even further.
The campaign itself exceeded all expectations across the board. The content went viral, smashing set KPIs and delivering on outlined objectives. It received pick up from both national and international media outlets. ‘World class sponsor content’, ‘10/10 branded content’ and ‘wonderful piece of marketing’ were just some of the thousands of online comments posted about the campaign.
