Sky Broadband have invested heavily into gaming in recent years through their partnership with Guild Esports. To achieve Sky Broadband’s objective of becoming the #1 broadband choice for gamers, this year we needed to expand beyond Esports and speak to the broader mid-hardcore gaming audience (~17m in UK).
We helped Sky Broadband identify Fortnite as the right platform to engage this audience, due to its cultural weight, thriving esports scene and perennial top 10 position on streaming platforms.
Working with Umi Games and Guild, Sky built their own map in Fortnite, a cityscape above the clouds, called Sky City. We were tasked with driving awareness of Sky City and bringing the experience into the heart of gaming culture.
We partnered with four of the hottest streamers, allowing us to authentically speak to gamers by borrowing the cultural equity of trusted Fortnite voices.
Putting the creators’ communities at the centre of the campaign, we created a first-of-its-kind live event, Speed Showdown. The creators went live on stream, inviting their community to join Sky City and play alongside them in a series of free-for-all public matches. Points were awarded for eliminations, match wins, and special challenges. The creator with the most points after the three rounds was crowned the Champion of Speed and won a party bag of prizes to hand out to their community, who helped them take the crown.
