Extreme E is a sport-for-purpose electric off-road racing series which operates in remote environments. It seeks to minimise its own environmental impact whilst utilising its entertainment platform to maximise awareness for clean energy solutions which pave the way for a lower carbon future.
In line with its carbon reduction goals, Extreme E set a target to transition away from HVO powered generators and produce its own clean energy power source, with a goal of becoming fully zero emission, which would be an influential world-first in sports and entertainment events.
To achieve this ambitious goal, Extreme E partnered with ENOWA, the energy, water and hydrogen subsidiary of NEOM, a futuristic region in northwest Saudi Arabia which will be powered by 100% renewable energy.
Sponsoring Extreme E enabled ENOWA an effective operational test-bed and business case-study, as well as a global sponsorship platform through which it could showcase its cutting edge technologies and capabilities to new business across multiple markets.
Extreme E and ENOWA were perfectly aligned, both sharing ambitious, world-first clean energy goals. The success of this collaboration is to set a path, not only in motorsport, where F1 has set a target to reduce operational carbon emissions 50% by 2030, but also for additional industries such as live music events to decarbonise, which currently burns 380 million litres of diesel annually, leading to 1.018 billion kilograms of CO2 being released into the atmosphere.
