BMW and Ross Edgley – The Great Icelandic Swim

British endurance athlete and adventurer Ross Edgley once again defied the limits of human performance – completing a record-breaking 1,000-mile swim around Iceland’s coastline.

From May to September 2025, Ross endured freezing temperatures, unpredictable currents, and violent storms to become the first person ever to achieve this feat.

In partnership with BMW, this extraordinary expedition placed the all-electric BMW iX at the centre of the story – navigating Iceland’s rugged terrain, transporting vital equipment, and powering scientific research along the way.

The collaboration went far beyond a logo on a wetsuit. It brought to life BMW’s vision for sustainable innovation and human progress, proving the performance of electric mobility in one of the world’s most extreme environments.

The challenge captured the imagination of millions, becoming one of the most followed sports stories of the year, with the BMW iX consistently front and centre across broadcast, press, and social media.
