McDonald’s Fun Football is a McDonalds Trust platform activation that offers free, inclusive entry level football designed to give every child aged 5–11 the opportunity to participate in the game they love. Fun Football centres offer free 60-minute coaching sessions, led by qualified coaches across the UK, based on skill development, play, building confidence.
Fun Football was challenged to become more inclusive and expand its offering to enable more children to participate in Fun Football and provide a programme that was of genuine use and value to parents. It took a top down and bottom-up approach to improving accessibility and inclusivity, with mainstream centres made more accessible through upskilling coaches in coaching kids with additional needs and providing Impairment and Pan-disability sessions for those unable to attend a mainstream session. Its ambition was to build brand trust for McDonald’s and reinforce McDonald’s positive impact in local communities
For those unable to participate in mainstream sessions, tailored sessions to support a diverse range of disabilities were developed. These were created in partnership with DEI Charity Partners, UK Deaf Sport, British Blind Sport and Access Sport as well as our UK FA network. Disability accessible Fun Football was delivered in 19 locations offering 500+ opportunities to young people across the UK.
All this whilst continuing to grow the Fun Football footprint to bring sessions closer to more children. Through work with CiN growth has targeted the areas highest deprivations with sessions now being delivered in 87% of these communities.
