2016 revenue figures increase 5.7% to EUR€27.15b
The European Sponsorship Association (ESA), the membership body that raises standards within the sponsorship profession, today announced that the annual figure for the size of the European sponsorship industry in 2016 was EUR€27.15 billion, an increase of 5.7% from the 2015 figure of EUR€25.70 billion.
The 2016 UEFA European Championship was held in France and figures were further boosted by Rio de Janeiro hosting the 2016 Olympic Games, with the majority of monies going to the IOC in Switzerland.
Many of the global and Europe wide federations are increasing the number of sponsors they have, along with an increase in the value of each deal.
Local country sponsorships grew by an average of 1-2% in 2016.
Sophie Morris, ESA Board Director, said “It’s very encouraging for the European industry to see that there was strong growth in 2016 and a 7 year high in terms of total industry size.”
