“Plea for the TV ” is a way to help English, Scottish and Welsh rugby fans stuck in lockdown who won’t be able to flock to stadiums, friend’s houses, and pubs to watch the rugby. It’s a simple plea to the people they live with, who might have other ideas for the TV, asking them to hand over the remote.
Fans can tag whoever needs to hear the message in a number of impassioned video pleas on social media, which feature a rugby legend from each union. The videos star former Wales and Lions centre, Tom Shanklin; 63 time Scottish international, Jim Hamilton; and former English winger and current BBC pundit, Ugo Monye.
Sam Moorhead, Creative Partner at Showrunner, said:
“Tensions were bound to arise when the Autumn Internationals came around, and rugby and non-rugby fans were stuck in the same sitting room together. So we thought Plea for the TV was an entertaining and genuinely helpful way for Guinness to help rugby fans during lockdown.”
Showrunner is the Entertainment and Culture hub of ESA member Verve, which was set up earlier this year. Headed up by creative duo Sam Moorhead and Mikey Fleming, Showrunner has already created an animated mini-series with a message to Shop Local (Rare Owl Times), and a horror movie shot and made specifically for Instagram Stories (#SPON).
The next plea was released on Wednesday 18th November, just in time for England’s game against Ireland, and can be found at @EnglandRugby, @GuinnessGB and @ugomonye.
