- Betfair design Arsenal-themed Escape Room for a unique head-to-head challenge
- Per Mertesacker, Petr Cech and Danny Welbeck are challenged by Arsenal legends in a series of tasks designed to test their knowledge on the club’s history
- Ray Parlour and Martin Keown laid down the gauntlet, setting an impressive time for the player’s to try and beat
For three Arsenal players it was a case of ‘Escape to Victory’ as Betfair introduced a unique new challenge. Betfair, the Official Betting Partner of Arsenal Football Club, recruited a pair of club legends to take on the current crop of Arsenal players in an Escape Room Challenge.
Betfair partnered with one of the UK’s leading Escape Room specialists to create a bespoke challenge that would require the players to think outside the box and show their creativity to break out of the room in under 20 minutes.
Per Mertesacker, Petr Cech and Danny Welbeck were blindfolded and led into a manager’s office before the door was securely locked behind them and the search for clues began. The manager’s office contained five Arsenal themed puzzles and with only 20 minutes on the clock it required the players to work together seamlessly to crack the codes and break out in the quickest time possible.
The gauntlet was thrown down by two Arsenal Invincibles, Ray Parlour and Martin Keown, who stopped the clock at an impressive 13 minutes 26 seconds after they completed the final challenge by locating the Escape Room exit which was camouflaged as a bookcase.
However, the Invincibles had a rare taste of defeat as the current Arsenal players escaped in 11 minutes 50 seconds.
Petr Cech, AFC goalkeeper said: “It was a lot of fun and surprising how much pressure you feel as the clock ticks on. I enjoyed the challenge and having to think outside the box. If Danny had removed his blindfold from the start we could have escaped in a much quicker time but I’m pleased we were able to beat Ray and Martin.”
Ray Parlour, AFC Legend said: “This isn’t the first time I’ve tried to escape the manager’s office! It was a great challenge for all of us and great to take on some of the current first-team.”
Paul Gambrill, Marketing Director for Betfair, said: “Since we renewed our partnership with Arsenal in 2016, we have been working with the club and the players to expand our activity across the UK, Europe, South and Central America. Opportunities like this to work with the current Arsenal players and club legends is a great way for Betfair to engage with such an incredible fan base.”
