Burhill Golf Club has been added as a fourth qualifying venue for The 2015 Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex.
The Surrey course joins the Berkshire Golf Club, Camberley Heath Golf Club and Foxhills in hosting the Monday qualifying event on July 20, prior to the 29th Senior Open Championship being held at Sunningdale Golf Club from July 23-26.
Approximately 400 players are expected to compete in the 18-hole qualifying competition. They will be hoping to earn a coveted spot in the field for The 2015 Senior Open Championship, alongside some of the greats of the game, including Colin Montgomerie and defending champion Bernhard Langer, who claimed his second Senior Open crown by a record-breaking 13 strokes at Royal Porthcawl in July, when Wales hosted its first Senior Major Championship.
Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Senior Tour, said on behalf of the Championship: “Due to the anticipated large number of players we expect to enter the qualifying event for next year’s Senior Open Championship, we have decided to add Burhill to the three previously announced courses; the Berkshire, Camberley Heath and Foxhills.
“Burhill is another superb course and we look forward to working with all four venues in the build up to The 2015 Senior Open Championship at Sunningdale.”
Burhill Golf Club is home to two 18 hole courses: the Old Course, designed by Willie Park which opened in 1907, and the New Course, which opened in 2001.
Sunningdale Golf Club will host The Senior Open Championship for a second time following 2009, when American Loren Roberts defeated Mark McNulty and Fred Funk in a play-off.
