MANCHESTER UNITED LEAD THE WAY FOR SPONSORSHIP IN EUROPE
CSM Sport and Entertainment has today launched a report that analyses the five most football-loving countries in Europe: Spain, England, Italy, Germany and France, to better understand their respective sponsorship landscapes. The research has uncovered 2,289 sponsorship deals, involving 1,606 companies in 55 different sectors, which results in an investment of approximately €4,043 million euros across these five nations.
Manchester United leads the ranking of clubs, with revenues of 279 million euros through its 68 agreements. These numbers are given, to a large extent, thanks to the development of their territorial sponsorship strategy, adding a total of 44 regional agreements.
FC.Barcelona is in second place with 261 million and 43 agreements. The club lost one sponsor last year but continued to increase income thanks to their sponsorship from Turkish appliance company Beko, which in addition to the shirt sleeve sponsorship, this year it also appears on the team’s training kit.
FC Bayern occupies the third position in this ranking, with total revenues of 180 million euros and 29 agreements. The German club added four brands to their sponsorship portfolio, in addition to signing an agreement with Qatar Airways as the sleeve sponsor of the Bavarian team.
Real Madrid C.F. occupies the fourth position with a sponsorship income of 178 million euros per year through its 19 agreements. The club has lost eight of their sponsors this season, while they have only added ManBetX, a Chinese betting company, as the club’s regional sponsor.
Chelsea FC closes the Top 5 with an annual revenue of 154 million euros through its 18 agreements and is positioned as the second English club, ahead of the almighty Manchester City, which is placed sixth with 149 million euros and 38 agreements.
Rounding out the Top 11 is Arsenal FC, in seventh place with 124 million (27 deals), followed by Liverpool FC in eighth place with 117 million (17 deals), PSG, in ninth place with 112 million and 24 deals and Juventus Cristiano Ronaldo, tenth with 101 million (39 agreements). Borussia Dortmund closes the ranking with 80 million and 71 agreements.
