Syllabus
The ESA Introduction to Sponsorship course has been designed as a digital offering, enabling participants to learn at their own pace. It supports individual study or can form part of an organisation’s professional development programme or be integrated into an educational syllabus. The course has been compiled on behalf of ESA by Catherine Hawkins, Founder of Think!Sponsorship and Sandra Greer, Founder of Greer Consulting who have a combined sponsorship experience of 50+ years! They were appointed following a competitive tender. Catherine and Sandra share ESA’s vision of growing a diverse sector through world-leading education in its role as the essential and inclusive community for all professionals working in sponsorship.
Modules include case studies and best practice, and cover the following:
Module 1 – Introduction to Sponsorship

Module 4 – Making the Sale
- The importance of the sponsorship proposal
- Key factors in securing sponsorship
- The essentials of the client brief
- What makes a good sales proposal.
Module 5 – Sponsorship Activation
- Sponsorship activation and creating activation strategies
- Importance of budgeting for activation
- Examples of best practice in sponsorship activation
- Key trends in sponsorship activation.
Module 6 – Does it Work?
- Importance of measurement in sponsorship
- Challenges to measuring sponsorship
- Key sponsorship measurement techniques
- Setting up a research programme
- Key trends in sponsorship measurement.
At the end of each module participants complete a set of questions that form the course assessment. Participants achieving the pass standard will be awarded a certificate of completion.
