A discussion focusing on career opportunities will form a key part of the ESA Sponsorship Summit in London on Thursday 3rd April.
The session is aimed at those interested particularly in making sponsorship a career path towards a Board level position. It will explore whether, in career development terms, sponsorship is viewed as part of marketing or whether it is more often considered as a cross-functional discipline. Finally, it will examine how CMOs view their sponsorship team – as an ideal breeding ground for their successors, or a niche career in itself.
This panel discussion comprises a mix of sponsorship practitioners who have approached their careers differently. Two Circles’ Matt Rogan will moderate the session. The panel will discuss what is meant by a T-shaped career, and debate the best routes to Board level roles.
The panel will comprise:
Mark Evans, Marketing Director, Direct Line, who will share his experiences of how marketing is perceived within a corporate blue chip environment and the specific challenges for sponsorship professionals in generating Board level cut-through.
Nick Caplin, Director of Communications, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, who will share his thoughts on managing a sponsorship portfolio across 109 countries, including the global sponsorship of the UEFA Champions League and PlayStation’s activation of Sony’s sponsorship of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™.
Andy Sutherden, Global Head of Sports Marketing & Sponsorship, Hill+Knowlton Strategies, who heads a team voted 2013 Sports Agency of the Year and will share a perspective on what his national and international clients expect from the talent working on their business.
Amanda Fone, Founder & Managing Partner of f1 recruitment llp who will offer her perspective on placing candidates into leading edge organisations of all types, and specifically the way in which she notices employers’ needs for senior level marketing talent changing.
Mike Fleming, Business Development Manager, Havas Sports & Entertainment ignition, who decided to retrain after an initial seven-year career in healthcare construction. He is now an ESA Diploma alumni.
Session moderator Matt Rogan, Managing Director of Two Circles, has grown his agency significantly in the last 2 ½ years, principally through the recruitment of talent from outside traditional sports marketing channels.
