Sir Roger Bannister was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by Vitality ahead of today’s Oxford Half Marathon.
Sir Roger Bannister started the Vitality Oxford Half Marathon for 6,000 runners with a large hooter at the Kassam Stadium today. Before he lifted the starting rope the 85 year old was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by former UK hurdler Jon Ridgeon on behalf of sponsors PruHealth and and PruProtect with Vitality.
Sir Roger Bannister said “It was fantastic to be able to start the race today, I hope everyone enjoys the route as it is a great area which takes in some stunning scenery.”
Ridgeon commented, “It is a great honour to have Sir Roger starting the race today and I am delighted to present this Award as he was a hero and inspiration to me in my athletics career.”
