SunGod’s new 8KO® Infinite™ Lenses, which feature 50% recycled materials for the very first time, continue to push the boundaries of sustainable innovation in the eyewear industry.
SunGod has collaborated with long-term partner Surfers Against Sewage to create a radical new lens material that takes sustainability in the eyewear industry to the next level. The leading British performance eyewear brand has developed the groundbreaking 8KO® Infinite™ Lenses, featuring 50% recycled material for the very first time. This lens material causes a significant reduction in CO2e emissions: using Infinite™ lenses over existing virgin lenses drops emissions from 9.19kg CO2e per kilogram of lens material, to 5.21kg (a reduction of 43%). Developed in collaboration with SAS, SunGod has incorporated this lens material into a brand-new sustainable eyewear range: the Limited Edition SunGod x Surfers Against Sewage collection.
SunGod’s bestselling Renegades™, Sierras™ and Classics³ have been redesigned to feature the innovative new lens technology, alongside Infinite™ 100% Recycled frames – which have a 7x lower carbon impact than virgin plastic frames – and 100% recycled and recyclable packaging. Plus, SunGod are offering 360° support to SAS through running a donation scheme, where each customer donates £4 per pair, which SunGod matches with additional £4 to achieve an ambitious total of £16,000 to support SAS in 2022, doubling their support from 2021. Inspired by SunGod’s triple bottom line – that puts people, planet and profit on equal footing – and SAS’s mission to improve the quality of our oceans and rivers, the new collection has disrupted the eyewear industry and set an incredible new benchmark for sustainable eyewear.
SunGod’s 8KO® Infinite™ Lenses feature the most advanced lens technology on the planet, offering superior optical clarity and lighter weight than industry-standard polycarbonate; plus triple-layer scratch resistance and 100% UV and impact protection as standard. Combined with SunGod’s ultra-durable Infinite™ 100% Recycled frames, and backed up by SunGod’s unrivalled Lifetime Guarantee, the Surfers Against Sewage Limited Edition offers conscious consumers a pair of sustainable sunglasses that last a lifetime.
The collection is also packaged in a 100% Recycled Microfibre pouch, created from recycled plastic bottles and uniquely designed in collaboration with SAS to reflect and champion the charity’s work. The pouch is designed to be incredibly soft and double up as a cleaning cloth, reducing the footprint of the product even further. And will be delivered with 100% recycled and recyclable packaging, that has been specifically re-designed to reduce waste material created in the production process, and minimise the Carbon Footprint of purchasing.
SunGod has worked with Surfers Against Sewage since 2020, supporting their vital ocean pollution work around the planet to campaign for thriving oceans and rivers. With the UK’s rivers in a critical state due to litter, pollution and sewage run off, SunGod are getting behind their 2022 River Petition to address river pollution that is putting populations at risk, destroying delicate ecosystems and threatening ocean recovery. Donations go towards fuelling SAS’ ocean and river activism; the fight against plastic pollution, cleaning up blue and green spaces with the Million Mile Clean, inspiring the next generation with the Plastic Free School programme, or engaging the Plastic Free Communities, united in their passion for the environment. Overall, each pair sold will help SAS raise funds for and awareness of the effect climate change is having on the ocean, and champion the ocean’s role as a key tool in tackling climate change.
Ed Watkiss, Head of Product at SunGod: “Since day one, SunGod has taken a pioneering approach towards making better, more sustainable performance eyewear. Our partners and community are at the core of our brand, so the collaboration with Surfers Against Sewage has been deeply rewarding, especially in this innovative space; this is a huge step forward in creating eyewear that is better for the planet. This innovation within SunGod, with support from SAS, has allowed us to challenge the norms of the eyewear industry without compromising the quality of our lenses.”
Hugo Tagholm, CEO, Surfers Against Sewage: “We’re stoked to have the support of SunGod to help us grow our campaigns protecting the ocean for everyone. Working with partners who share our vision and values is a powerful way to build our network and impact at beaches across the UK, and forge a better future for our seas.”

About SunGod:
SunGod is a British performance eyewear brand, founded in 2013 with offices in London and Verbier, Switzerland. Their mission is simple: See Better. Through their lenses, through their actions and through doing business better.
Starting out as a crowdfunding campaign in 2013, SunGod has grown to become a globally recognised performance eyewear brand, that is community-built and sustainable to the core. SunGods are worn by elite athletes and teams around the world, and their partners – who range from globally recognised names such as McLaren F1 Team and England Rugby to WorldTour cycling teams like Liv Racing Xstra, to prove the performance of their products at the very highest level.
SunGod has also built a business model that puts people, planet and profit on equal footing. As a certified Carbon Neutral brand that donates 1+% of revenue to sustainability-focused charities through 1% For The Planet, and is on the road to B Corp, sustainability lies at the heart of SunGod’s business model. Operating through a direct-to-consumer structure, SunGod cuts out the middleman to maintain greater control over their products, operations, and impact, and offer a world-class customer experience direct to their community.
SunGod’s partners, ambassadors and customers are the core of their brand. Together, SunGod’s mission to See Better is multiplied.

About Surfers Against Sewage:
Surfers Against Sewage is a grassroots environmental charity that campaigns to protect the ocean and all it makes possible. It was created in 1990 by a group of Cornish surfers, fighting to clean up the sea that was making them sick. Now, Surfers Against Sewage campaigns on all that threatens the ocean – plastic pollution, the climate emergency, industrial exploitation and water quality – taking action on the ground that triggers change from the top.
