Adidas wins Sponsorship Of The Year Trophy as UK Industry Awards celebrates its 20th Anniversary and Lloyds TSB/BOS’s London 2012 Partnership scoops Best Sponsorship of the Last 20 Years
Adidas’ Team Messi sponsorship was named Sponsorship Of The Year at the 20th UK Sponsorship Awards, held in front of a capacity crowd at the London Marriott Hotel on Wednesday, March 26 2014. At the same time, Lloyds TSB and Bank Of Scotland’s partnership with London 2012 was named as The Best Sponsorship of the Last 20 Years, following the event’s first-ever publicly-polled Award.
The Team Messi campaign also won the Sport (£2m+) and International Categories to complete a hat-trick of wins for adidas and its agency iris Culture. There was more good news for Adidas and iris when their #hitthewinner campaign picked up one of the evening’s two digital activation gongs.
Commenting on the results, UK Sponsorship Awards organiser Rosemary Sarginson said: “The quality of this year’s entries was superb. Any fear that we might have had about post-London 2012 industry fatigue was quickly dispelled when we saw the range and quality of the work.”
It was a good night for the financial services sector, with Halifax, Barclays, RBS, QBE and Aberdeen Asset Management all picking up Awards. The drinks industry’s flag was flown by Bell’s, Budweiser and Tennant’s, which is celebrating 20 years of its summer event T in the Park.
As part of the UK Sponsorship Awards’ 20th Anniversary celebrations, three personality awards were handed out to BP’s Des Violaris (Outstanding Contribution To The Arts), Dentsu Aegis’ David Peters (Outstanding Contribution To Media) and founder and consultant of the CSM Group, Alan Pascoe MBE (Outstanding Contribution To Sport). In the evening’s two Sponsorship Consultancy of the Year categories, Fuse and Right Formula came out on top.
Other winners included Sennheiser, SSE Hydro, Domino’s Pizza, HTC, The People’s Friend, Bupa, Vauxhall and The Co-operative, which won the Special Prize for Green Sponsorship. Best use of research and evaluation went to Next Generation Sponsorship: ITV & SPA Future Thinking. Very.co.uk picked up two Awards for its partnership with Big Brother. One of these was in the innovation category.
