Double Grand Slam tennis champion Andy Murray recently met one of his sporting heroes and Arsenal great, Robert Pires, over a relaxed game of Petanque in Paris.
This forms part of Standard Life’s ‘Master Your Dreams’ campaign, where Murray took some precious time out of his French Open preparation to meet Robert Pires, the talented former French international midfielder and member of the historic Arsenal ‘invincibles’ side who remained unbeaten throughout their 2003/4 title winning season.

In this short film, not only does Pires show off his exemplary Petanque technique, the sporting greats acknowledge a shared love of football and Arsenal to address the big questions facing the sport at the moment:
- Pires tips France for greatness on home soil this summer and includes England amongst the tournament favourites
- Pires mocks his former club’s arch rivals Tottenham as they finish behind the Gunners again
- Pires calls for Arsenal to sign John Stones, saying they need more English players if they are to challenge for the title
This year, Standard Life’s partnership with Tennis World Number 2 Andy Murray tells the story of advancing ambition and commitment to excellence as part of the ‘Master Your Dreams’ campaign. ‘When Andy met Robert Pires’ is the second in a series that shows Murray meeting sports people he admires for their personal commitment to giving all it takes to master their dreams. The first featured Miami Heat player and fellow GB Olympian, Luol Deng. Subscribe to Standard Life’s YouTube Channel or head to withAndy.com to see who Andy will meet next.
